SECURITY AT THE PICKERING TOWN CENTRE

  1. The mall management have increased surveillance through their security staff and they have a new security manager.
  2. The police have excellent liaison with mall security.
  3. The above two items increases the security of patrons walking or shopping at the mall.
  4. However common sense and keeping aware of  at all times, should be maintained by patrons.

PUBLIC PARKS

  1. Police patrols by bicycle are visiting the parks regularly from May through October.
  2. The number of patrols will be greater in the coming year as more policemen are being trained for bicycle patrols.

CROSSING STREETS

  1. Always cross on the traffic lights or at official cross-walks.
  2. DO NOT cross streets anywhere else. This is for your own safety.
  3. Motorists are prepared to stop for traffic lights and cross-walks.
  4. They may not be as careful in other areas of the roadway.

CONTROL AND LICENSING OF TAXI CABS

  1. The police have a taxi checking blitz periodically to check the safety of taxis and the drivers' current operators licenses.
  2. If a problem is found each case is given 24 hours to appear. On some occasions it is obvious that tires and brakes are in excellent condition and the vehicle has recently been serviced.
  3. These periodic checks help to ensure the safety of all local cabs.

UNCONTROLLED DOGS AND LOUD MUSIC LATE AT NIGHT. (Noise by-law).

  1. This type of complaint should be directed to the City of Pickering's Clerks Department as they fall under the City by-laws
  2. However for these kinds of disturbances the police will answer your call.
  3. It may take an hour or so if the police are very busy. This often happens on the weekends.
  4. The police do appreciate your patience in these cases.
